The Steps to Getting Covered

It takes five steps to go from a first call to a policy in your hands. Straightforward cases can finish in a couple of weeks. Cases that need medical records usually run longer, and we tell you which kind yours is.

  1. 1

    Your first call

We find out who relies on your income and what you'd want paid off, like a mortgage, debts or a business loan. A few health questions later, you have a free price range and a rough schedule.

  2. 2

    Pick your coverage

We go over the options with you at our New Braunfels office, by phone or video, or at your kitchen table. You decide on the type of policy, the amount and the term with the cost of each in front of you.

  3. 3

The application and exam, if needed

We fill out the application with you. If the insurer wants an exam, a trained examiner can usually meet you at home or a spot you choose, and we help pick a time that keeps your day on track.

  4. 4

    Underwriting review

The insurer reviews your file. Most delays happen at this stage, so we keep checking in and pass along news as soon as it reaches us.

  5. 5

    Your policy arrives

Once you're approved, we go through the policy with you page by page, confirm your beneficiaries and arrange the first payment.

Term, Whole and Universal Life, Plus More

The first thing to settle is what kind of coverage fits and how much of it. Term life insurance protects you for a fixed number of years and costs less per dollar of coverage. Whole life insurance and universal life insurance are built to last as long as you do, and both set aside part of what you pay as cash value, though each handles that money its own way. We also offer final expense insurance, mortgage protection insurance and retirement income planning, so one agent sees the whole picture.

  • Term Life Insurance

Coverage for 10, 20 or 30 years, sized to your income and debts, with a clear picture of each step from first quote to an approved policy.

  • Mortgage Protection

Life coverage sized to your loan balance and term, with your family as beneficiary and an honest approval window before you apply.

  • Retirement Income Planning

A written, dated plan showing which retirement income starts when, how annuities and life insurance fit, and where the gaps are.

  • Final Expense Insurance

Small permanent policies sized for funeral and final costs, usually with health questions instead of an exam, and a clear timeline from first call to coverage.

  • Whole Life Insurance

Permanent coverage with a fixed premium and cash value, set up with a realistic timeline from first call to issued policy.

  • Universal Life Insurance

Permanent coverage with premiums you can adjust, set up with a funding plan that keeps the policy in force and a timeline you know up front.

Who You Will Be Working With

Ours is a small agency, and our clients live and work in New Braunfels and the towns close by. The way we run things comes down to one belief: when you buy coverage, you should know what happens next and roughly when. Too many folks apply, hear nothing for weeks and give up.

So we work another way. We set expectations at the first call, keep the times we give you and pick up the phone when the plan changes. And when a policy doesn't suit you, you'll hear that from us plainly, even if it means no sale.

Why Clients Work With Us

Buying a policy takes longer than most people expect. We say so up front and give you dates you can plan around.

  1. 01

A real timeline before you apply

Before you sign anything, we walk you through each stage: application, health questions, any exam, underwriting and delivery. You get a rough date for each one. A healthy 35-year-old on a simple term policy moves faster than someone with a long medical history, and we tell you which group you are likely in.

  2. 02

    Updates when underwriting stalls

Sometimes the insurance company asks for doctor records or a second lab test. When that happens, we call you, tell you what they asked for and how long it usually adds. You do not have to chase us for news.

  3. 03

Meetings that fit your family's schedule

Meet us at our New Braunfels office, by phone or video, or we can sit down at your kitchen table at a time you pick. If we set a window, we keep it. If something comes up on our end, you hear from us before the window starts, not after.

  4. 04

    Plain answers on policy type

Term life is often the right fit, and we will say so when it is. If whole life or universal life makes more sense for your goals, we explain why in everyday words and show you what it costs over time.

  5. 05

    Beneficiaries checked at delivery

When the policy arrives, we sit down with you and read the beneficiary lines together. Names, percentages and backup beneficiaries are where small mistakes cause big problems later.

Where We Meet With Clients

We work out of New Braunfels and meet clients throughout the area around it. That includes Seguin, Schertz, Cibolo, Garden Ridge, Canyon Lake and San Marcos. We also meet clients in Converse, Universal City, Live Oak and Selma.

What Decides Your Premium

Each quote is different because the insurer weighs risk one applicant at a time. These are the things that push your premium higher or lower. We talk through each of them by phone so the figure is clear before you apply.

Quotes are free and given by phone. Underwriting sets the final premium, and if it differs from your first quote, we explain why before you accept.

How old you are
Rates climb a little every birthday. Getting covered a few years sooner can add up to real savings across the policy's life.
Your health record
Weight, cholesterol, blood pressure and earlier conditions all play a part. The health class underwriting puts you in moves the price a lot.
Nicotine and tobacco
People who smoke or vape pay far more than those who don't. Most insurers require a certain stretch without nicotine before giving you non-user rates.
How much and how long
A larger death benefit means a larger premium. So does a longer term: locking a rate for 30 years costs more each month than covering the same sum for 10.
Kind of policy
Term life tends to cost the least. Whole life and universal life cost more since they cover you for life and build cash value.
Add-ons and exams
Extra riders add to the monthly bill, such as one that covers your premiums if a disability keeps you from working, or one that adds a little coverage for your children. Policies with no exam are approved sooner but usually cost more than fully underwritten ones.

Life Insurance Questions We Get Asked

When does my coverage begin?

That comes down to the policy type and your health. No-exam term or final expense coverage can be approved within days. Fully underwritten policies usually need several weeks, and more if the insurer requests records from your doctor. You get a straight estimate on the first call, and we tell you if it moves.

Will I have to take a medical exam?

That depends on the policy and how much coverage you want. Smaller amounts are sometimes approved on a health questionnaire alone. Bigger amounts usually mean a brief exam with a blood pressure reading and a blood draw. When one is needed, the examiner generally meets you at home or another spot you pick, and the visit is well under an hour.

How does term life compare with whole life?

Term life protects you for a set number of years, often 20 or 30, and the premium is lower. Whole life lasts as long as you pay and builds cash value, so the monthly cost is higher. Plenty of families begin with term since it gets them the most coverage per dollar. We can walk through both by phone.

How much coverage should I buy?

Add up what your family would face without your paycheck: the mortgage, debts, everyday bills, childcare and costs down the road like college. Take away your savings and any coverage you already carry. We work through those numbers with you so the amount matches what your family really needs, no more and no less.

Can I switch beneficiaries down the road?

Yes. Most policies let you update beneficiaries whenever you like by mailing a form to the insurer. A marriage, divorce, birth or death in the family is a good reason to look them over, and we are happy to help.

What if I get turned down or the rate comes back higher than expected?

That does happen, and you still have choices. We explain the insurer's reasoning and lay out what you can do next, like trying another type of policy or applying again later. You are never obligated to take an offer that does not sit right with you.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. We give quotes free by phone, and seeing the numbers does not lock you into applying.
